New Zealand Is Considering Lifting The Online Casino Ban

Meanwhile, Spain’s regulation will come into effect starting January 1st

The online gambling laws have been a hot topic lately in any online gambling field. Throughout the world, a hobby that was once outcast is now making its way into legality and regulation, with dozens of countries coming to terms with the fact that gambling, both online and not, is not as bad as previously thought, and people actually benefit from the gambling games, without any unwanted consequences.

After the United States and European Union have announced that their lawmakers are working on a fully legalized and regulated online gambling scene, it’s time for other countries to follow suit.

New Zealand is among the countries that have been struggling with coming up with a fair law for online gambling sites. Recently, a special parliamentary committee that has been assigned to discuss on the online gambling situation has taken into consideration a policy to restrict the transactions that real money casinos make on the internet, in a matter similar to the US’ UIGEA.

The New Zealand Bankers’ Association has opposed this policy, stating that it will be extremely ineffective. Along with the bankers, several other experts and members of the industry have opposed the proposed policy. Despite the fact that New Zealand has banned online casinos, studies have shown that the people of New Zealand have no problem in reaching an online gambling site, and the entire industry even employs some 150,000 people, which has led authorities to believe that perhaps it would be better to regulate and legalize the whole industry, rather than try to bury it.

Meanwhile, in a different corner of the world, Spain is trying to establish an online gambling regulation, and the date until it should be done has been set for the 1st of January, 2012. Things are moving in the right direction, as the Spanish Cabinet has recently approved several online gambling licenses.

The online gambling trade association that is active in Spain, the AEDAPI, has expressed its satisfaction over the way the administration is handling online gambling. So, now, everybody from lawmakers to online gambling companies, such as online casinos or online poker sites, are preparing for the new laws to go into effect starting with the first day of the new year. Ladbrokes even expressed their interest in entering the Spanish online gambling market, as well as other major online gambling companies.
