The recently formed group draws attention to online gambling legalization

FairPlayUSA will lobby for the cause in the US

The entire online gambling world was struck back in April, when one of the largest investigations in the industry’s history was launched. The FBI, working together with other law enforcement agencies, started a huge investigation into the activities of some of the world’s largest online gambling sites. They seized their assets, made arrests that held the front page for weeks, and it all culminated with the shutdown of Full Tilt Poker a couple of weeks ago.

But the online gambling enthusiasts and supporters that reside in the United States have started to fight back, and there are groups that appear and try to convince law makers that online poker and online gambling in the United States need to be properly regulated and licensed, and the supporters of such activities need a perfectly legal way through which to carry on with their hobby.

The most recent group that does just this is FairPlayUSA. It has just been launched, and it’s one of the most promising actions we have seen in the fight for online gambling.

The group is composed of online gambling enthusiasts, as well as key people in the US institutions: law enforcement officials, poker players, companies that activate in online gambling or online gaming, regular Americans that are passionate about the subject, and consumer protection experts. This lineup is proof that this is no group of amateurs, and it actually has a fighting chance!

Among the members of the group, there are some key persons whose opinions may end up weighing a lot more than others’. We can name Tom Ridge, the former Pennsylvania Governor and Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, or Greg Raymer – professional poker player and winner of the 2004 World Series of Poker Main Event. And considering the fact that the group is just at the beginning, we can only assume that more and more high profile individuals will join in the fight soon enough.

Whether or not FairPlayUSA will give the final blow that will help legalize online gambling once and for all in the US, it’s too soon to tell. But their joining the battle is the first step towards meeting the goal, and we wish them all the best and may they have a resounding success.
