The industry of bets over the internet had not been regulated in Spain until 2011 and now some licenses are required to operate one of these businesses. The Codere Foundation has helped to approve some of the new laws, by hosting different social events and gaining votes in favor of this activity.
Today, there are at least 400 companies distributed over 50 different countries that are involved in the online casino business. These companies operate over websites, which sum at least 2100. Most of these companies operate in South America, Malta, Gibraltar, United Kingdom and New Zealand. In Spain according to some recently gathered data, there are over 20 different companies that are operating on the internet from this country.
Due to some of the legal issues that had not been clarified, these companies were able to operate because their web hosts, would be located in countries where this activity is regulated, like the United Kingdom or Greenland. With the new regulations in Spain, this condition will change, because only those companies that meet the requirements to get a license will be able to operate.
According to experts, there will be a growth of at least 13% in this industry during 2012 and this is why many investors are looking to get one of these licenses. Some of the factors, which will influence on the growth of this industry next year are the easy access to the Internet, facility to gamble online and some of the great profits that other marketing or publicity campaigns generate from these businesses as well.
Although there has been a growth in this industry and some experts expect it to grow a lot next year; there are still more people who prefer to attend a live casino, bingo establishment or other gambling facilities which are regulated and are continuously inspected by certain government officials.
Many have stated that online gambling only forms about 8% of the entire world gambling market and about 7% of the European market. These are very low numbers and this is why next year, seems like it is going to be an excellent year for this industry.
Some people are not very satisfied with the new regulations on this industry in Spain, because they feel that their businesses will require meeting more than those that operate in live establishments. According to some, since they are not going to have a place for people to actually assist to, they should not pay such a high tax and meet certain requirements. Even if some casino owners are not satisfied with the new regulations, they will need to start meeting the new regulations if they want to form part of this growing business in Spain.
